Growing up on one of the Lofoten Islands, Norway, gave me a lot of experience when it came to jumping into the cold sea water in the summer. But that´s what we did during my childhood – from early May to late August! The water temperature was hardly ever more than 16-18’C, and we were freezing cold down to the bone when we finally got out.
My grandfather had this huge book about different sea creatures, and I could spend hours looking at the photos when visiting my grandparents´ house. At one point I even wanted to become a marine biologist who traveled all over the world finding new species and swimming with dolphins.
However, I ended up as a high school teacher with a huge need for traveling. When I was to go on a trip to Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar in 2005, I finally decided to become a certified scuba diver. Who would ever go to Zanzibar without being able to dive? Not me! From then on I have been lost!
People say I should try scuba diving at home because of the fantastic marine life and crystal clear water, but after growing up above the Arctic Circle, I have had my share of cold sea water. People call me an aquarium diver because I prefer subtropical and tropical climate, and that is ok. At least it takes me to new places and has given me some fantastic experiences!
I don´t have any fancy dive camera. Most of the photos I have posted till now have been taken with a Canon G11 camera.
Hope you enjoy my photos!
